High potential and gifted education
At our school, we celebrate every child’s strength whether intellectual, creative, physical, or social-emotional. We create a supportive learning environment where each student is encouraged to grow and succeed. Using clear goals and tracking progress, we make sure every learner is challenged at the right level and given the support they need to reach their potential.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Recognising potential and developing talent
Our teachers identify potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be. Our school prides itself on the diverse range of talent development programs it offers across the four domains of high potential and giftedness.
Tailored lessons
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by differentiated teaching that is responsive to individual student needs, ensuring that every child is meaningfully challenged and working towards personalised goals.
Rich opportunities and activities
Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talents in the arts, sports, leadership and more.
Opening doors to wider experiences
Our students participate in a wide range of activities at state, national and elite levels.
What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
- We celebrate talents across intellectual, creative, physical, and social-emotional areas.
- Every child is supported and challenged through feedback, clear goals and tracking of growth.
- Teachers use explicit teaching and inquiry to spark curiosity, problem-solving, and creativity.
- Ongoing assessment helps us know what students already understand and where to go next.
- Extra-curricular groups and enrichment opportunities give children the chance to dive deeper into their strengths and passions.
- Partnerships with universities and high schools offer out student's further enrichment opportunities.
- With student voice, feedback, STEM, technology, and community partnerships, our learners are encouraged to innovate, become independent and grow in confidence.
- Our school encourages every student to take an active role in their learning and school life. Students are empowered to contribute actively, not only to our school community, but to our wider community so that they can make positive, meaningful change in the world.
- Our students are encouraged and supported to participate as Student Voice Ambassadors, within the Brisbane Water Network, working alongside other student changemakers to enhance their own and each other's educational journeys.
- We nurture and empower our students through GRIP conferences, Student Parliament, playground leadership initiatives, social responsibility programs and eliciting student voice through feedback in every classroom.
- We recognise and celebrate the diversity of our students and pride ourselves on creating an inclusive, engaging learning environment. We are committed to working collaboratively with parents and families to plan for success.
The High Potential and Gifted Education Policy demonstrate the Department of Education’s commitment to providing guidance and support for schools and teachers in meeting the learning needs and optimising the growth and achievement of high potential and gifted students from all backgrounds and across all domains of potential.
- Academic extension: Students challenge themselves through programs such as the Virtual STEM academy, ICAS assessments, Young Writer's Festival, Premier’s Spelling Bee and the Central Coast Public Speaking competition.
- Creative arts: Talents shine at the Central Coast Dance Festival, Dance Curriculum, Department of Education Poetry Slam and Choral Festivals - building confidence and self-expression.
